Downtown Kalamazoo Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Every year, Downtown Kalamazoo hosts a tree lighting event in Bronson Park, located just off Park Street and South Street. It is usually the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs from 5-8 PM. You can find live Christmas jingles, meet and greet with Santa, pet reindeer, and take a stroll through Candy Cane Lane.

The mayor and city council of Kalamazoo hosts the event and reads a Christmas story to the crowd. You can also take the Holly Jolly Trolley around Downtown Kalamazoo! Mr. and Mrs. Clause came through town escorted by Kalamazoo Public Safety.

It is a family friendly event. Dogs were also welcomed and encouraged. However, if you have a small dog, like my gal Luna, you might want to reconsider.

Hot chocolate is offered for donations to go to a good cause. This year, they chose to help end domestic violence in Kalamazoo. Check out this cool video I took right before the lights turned on.

If you were able to make the event, feel free to share your pictures with me! If you missed this year, put it on your to-do list for next year! It makes for a great date night…

  1. Looks like a very cool event. Can I offer a couple suggestions if you want to attract more readers? I don’t see any tags on your posts. They’ll work like hashtags for you on wordpress. Photo, photography work well for me, and there should be more of the popular tags on the wordpress reader. And since you do photography you might consider the wordpress weekly photo challenge which starts anew every Friday about noon. Put an attractive title and people will visit. This is the url: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/
